The Mill River Trail connects neighborhoods, nature, and people — a green corridor linking our city to the Sound. The idea began decades ago, and one of its earliest champions was Tom Holahan, who helped shape the original vision for a public trail along the river’s full length.
To honor Tom’s legacy, Susan Holahan, his widow, made a $10,000 founding gift to create a permanent endowment:
The Tom Holahan Fund for the Mill River Trail, held at the Community Foundation for Greater New Haven.
This endowment will generate flexible annual income to:
Maintain and improve the trail’s landscape and infrastructure
Support public art and educational programming
Provide flexible resources to advance the trail’s long-term health and community use
As the community invests in expanding trail systems, this fund ensures that the Mill River Trail will remain cared for, creative, and welcoming — for generations to come.
Our goal is to double the endowment to $20,000 by the end of next year.
You can help grow this legacy.
Donors who give $500 or more before the deadline will be recognized as members of the Founders’ Circle, acknowledged on this page and in future trail materials.
